ABOUT OUR COVER:
E + O FOOD & DRINK
TEAM
What does E+O stand for?, is the most frequent question addressed to co-owners Aeron Lancero, Chef “Buddha” Rodelio Aglibot, and Paul Lee.
The answer is, “E” stands for Earth and “O” for Ocean, meaning GreenLiving concept, as they are, personally, advocates of green living which they are carrying through their business. The beautiful wall decor in ocean blue proves true of the name, same thing with lights that look and sound like rainforest.
A world-class restaurant in the suburban neighborhood of Mount Prospect, E+O offers Global Food Fares that can only be found mostly in the city’s top-rated restaurants.
Its extensive food offering is being characterized as Asian fusion, and it is likewise inviting to a medley of clientele, from family (they have fantastic children’s menu) to young gens who are out to party for the night, or simply for a couple’s anticipated romantic date out. GLOBAL is a most apropos description as the place and food are so inviting to a diverse group of people that live in Chicago and suburbs.
Just recently opened to the public, E+O is getting rave reviews and five-star ratings from its diverse clientele. Let’s quote some of the remarks and testimonials...
“The decor is Asian zen which is quite relaxing. The service is perfect yet in a low key setting and not overwhelming, again relaxing.”
“E+O is more than just a dining experience, it is an entire culinary adventure. E+O food achieves a wonderful balance of flavors and textures that delight the palate.”
“If you want the downtown/River North experience at a reasonable price point with free valet (!) in the suburbs this is the place. It is great to finally have an upscale independent restaurant alternative in the suburbs.”
“The meal was as delightful as my server, Tracy,
who arrived at the right moments to ask about the bisque and sandwich. What a treat ! I should have gotten an extra sandwich to go. I'll be back---”
“The bone marrow and carne asada tacos were amazing, it's served on the bone and there is a lot of marrow. The brussel sprouts and kale salad was excellent. The shrimp tempura with walnuts was SO tasty and an interesting combination. To sum up, easy to get to, great and calming decor, too many good choices on the menu, we have to go back!”
“From the moment we drove up to the restaurant (with complimentary valet) it felt like a trendy city restaurant (without dealing with all the traffic to get there). We met up with four friends and decided to order a bunch of small plates to share. It was hard to choose because so many looked great.”
‘One of the prettiest restaurants I have ever seen: contemporary without pretension. Music complements the decor while allowing conversation. Can't wait till warmer weather arrives and we can dine outside on spacious patio! Valet parking available. Excellent and friendly service. We will be back soon!’
These are just a few of customers’ comments who have recently visited E+O, and for sure, we will be hearing more about this super-fantastic place.
E+O Food & Drink is the answer to our many kababayans’ lament, such as, “Where could I take my guest/s for a Filipino/Asian restaurant that I can be so proud of, and not feel embarrassed?” E+O’s menu includes some favorite Filipino dishes cooked and served differently from your mother’s kitchen, like adobo pork belly, crispy pata pork shank, and many others at reasonable prices.
Co-owners Aeron and Chef Buddha are pure-blooded Pinoys, and ever-popular Unc Paul who’s the greatest guy in customer relations, is popularly named as “half-pinoy” as he is married to a lady Pinay doctor. And Unc Paul is more Pinoy in
deeds and action, as some of his fans have commented.
Here’s an official statement from them..."E+O is an opportunity for us to make a viable brand and business. There's a lifestyle movement happening in the suburbs, more brands are aiming for an upscale quality. We are trying to create a city style and vibe with a broadened new American menu.
It’s chef- and seasonal-driven with a very approachable menu and environment. The ultimate goal is a national rollout of restaurant projects under the E+O Food and Drink moniker."
Chef “Buddha” Rodelio Aglibot, Paul Lee and Aeron Lancero, operate under the Intrestco Brand.
Chef Rodelio who is known for his distinctive, globally influenced cuisine as well as a philosophy of balance and respect, recently appeared as a guest Chef on ABC Ch. 5’s “Windy City Live.”
At E+O, chef Rodel channels his Asian culinary roots, while integrating worldwide flavors through a broad menu that includes a raw bar, shared plates, pastas and signature entrees. The partners all collaborated to create a place that is inviting with a great culinary variety and memorable experiences."
Mt. Prospect Mayor Irvana Wilks’ comment at the inaugural ribbon-cutting ceremony of E+O last March 2, 2013, “I believe that E+O will be a fabulously successful restaurant that this village can be so proud of.”

Sultan Kiram’s Impossible Dream’ Over Sabah
Editorial
The North Borneo dispute refers to the territorial dispute between
Malaysia and the Philippines over much of the eastern part of Sabah.Sabah was known as North Borneo prior to the formation of the Malaysian Federation. The Philippines, via the heritage of the Sultanate of Sulu, claims Sabah on the basis that the territory was leased to the British Borneo Company in 1878 with the Sultanate sovereignty never been reliquished since then.
Malaysia, however, considers this dispute as a “non-issue,” as it believes that the 1878 agreement was that of cession, and that it deems that the residents of Sabah had exercised their right to self-determination when they voted to join the Malaysian Federation in 1963.
From 1906 and 1920, the U.S. formally reminded Great Britain and North Borneo that Sabah did not belong to the Crown and was still a part of the Sultanate of Sulu. However, the British did turn Sabah into a crown colony.
On September 1962, the territory of North Borneo and its full sovereignty, title and dominion over the territory were ceded to the then reigning Sultan of Sulu, Sultan Esmail Kiram I to the Republic of the Philippines.
This cession effectively gave the Philippine government the full authority to pursue their claim over Sabah in the international court. The Philippines broke diplomatic relations with Malaysia after the Federation had included Sabah in 1969, but resumed it unofficially through Manila accord.
It was recorded in 1968 that President Marcos was training a team of militants known as Operation Medeka for infiltration into Sabah, but this plan failed due to the event known as the Gabidah Massacre.
The diplomatic ties between Malaysia and Philippines were resumed in 1989 because President Cory Aquino had placed the Sabah claim in the backburner for the interest of pursuing the economic and security relations with Kuala Lumpur. The son of Cory Aquino (current president Noynoy) is also pursuing the same stance at the expense of our Muslim brothers from Sulu.
Here’s the official United Nations’ statement regarding the Philippines’ claim on Sabah...”Historic title, no matter how pervasively claimed on the basis of old legal settlement and exercise of authority, cannot, except in the most extraordinary circumstances--prevail in law over rights of non-self governing people to claim independence and establish their sovereignty through the exercise of bona fide self-determination.” The independence of North Borneo was brought about as the result of the expressed wish of the majority of the people of the territory in the 1963 election. The people of Sabah has spoken.
Through the years of dormancy, the Sultanate of Sulu now realized the richness of Sabah, from palm oil, natural resources of oil and natural gas, white beaches, etc., wanting to reclaim and eyeing the riches of Sabah. The Sultanate also wants Malaysia to increase the so-called rent to the tune of half of Sabah’s produce which could be in millions of dollars.
Sabah has always been a peaceful area, but our Muslim brothers from Sulu chose to invade Sabah, which is home to about 800,000 Filipinos, including some members of the Sultanate who want to earn some decent living in the prosperous region of Sabah.
Sultan Jamalul Kiram failed to see the tendency for violence in the Philippines where he’s from that’s causing his region to lag behind compared to the other parts of the Philippines. And yet, he is claiming something that does not belong to him (or the Philippines) anymore. As a result, and the grave danger of Kiram’s armed invasion, is putting the two governments (Philippines and Malaysia) to war against each other.
The Philippines also has claims over the Spratly Islands, Scarborough Shoals, and the issue of limitations of water with Indonesia. The question is, should the Philippines send troops to all the disputed neighboring areas mentioned above, including Sabah? Good thing, the present government is not in that state of madness.e.
