Manny Villar’s Presidency, Something To Look Forward ToEditorial
The upcoming May 2010 Philippine
election has the first real internet campaign, although online strategy
and techology works remain in progress. Through hi-tech, there will be
all kinds of amazing ways for people to connect with the campaign
developments, for follow throughs, or even to create their own
mini-campaigns.
Although we do not have primary elections in the Philippines, party nomination has become the foundation of the Philippines’ general election. Around the Manny Villar Nacionalista Party, the Villar campaign personnel are collecting names and contact number both from the internet and rallies.
Villar’s campaign was a combination of audacity and caution, maybe he is more cautious in general than some members of the party. In an interview during our short visit in the Philippines, he has spoken of a bold energy independence program that will also design to create new jobs...a job producing program to improve the Philippine infrastructure, a reform health care for the poor, and improvement in education. He has shown a proclivity for taking much care over decisions and in management, taking time before he reacts to a proposal, talking to a large number of people before making up his mind. As it appears, Villar seems to be unsinkable as a strong presidential candidate.
Manny is unnerved by Noynoy Aquino & Gibo Teodoro, very strong opponents, who couldn’t rattle him. Both Noynoy & Teodoro evinced a certain indignation at the very idea of being challenged by an experienced heavyweight who is too clever and much too smooth. Noynoy views Villar as slippery. Villar dodges the opponents’ traps laid for him, including the C-5 highway project controversies.

Villar has indeed displayed a certain ruthlessness in the course of his political career and a skill of avoiding issues and situations that might impede his success. This trait will probably show up if he gets elected as president, potentially disllusioning some of his followers.
The nature of Villar’s triumph will be significant to his governance. His victory will be across-the-board among almost all voting groups. His group has been running an aggressive campaign strategy, placing staff and volunteers even in the heavily-dominated Liberal Party provinces.
Like most of the rest of the archipelago, but even more so in Manila (a heavily Erap city) will be euphoric over Villar’s presidential victory. It’s too simple to say that, for the first time, we are celebrating the election of a rags-to riches President of the Philippines. Not only that, Villar is smart, moralistic, and appealing, a serious man who is cool and has a great sense of humor. His election to the highest post would mean the dumbing down of the public discourse would be over. Being overly brainy and simply being one’s self, will be back in style.
Villar’s thrilling foreseen election victory will make more imminent the prospect that the dark nights of the country’s worst administration is evidently ending. The Filipino nation will overwhelmingly welcome the end to PGMA regime’s stupidity, corruptivility, the lies, the secrecy, its ineptitude, and its power grab.
The relief for the suffering Filipino nation is coming through Manny Villar. The Filipino people are smiling for something new, and something to look forward to, that though impoverished they see themselves cleansed soon.
