Veronica Leighton

Words of thanks, congrats &  compliments from Hall of FamersVeronica's Vibes

Dear Veronica, “Again, I apologize for being unable to attend the breakfast with you and Joe and the rest of the hall of famers. God knows I really wanted to be there. I am still on an ongoing high from the euphoria of last Saturday's event. All my guests had been telling me how honored and appreciative they felt for being there and had been telling our friends here in Michigan about the event. Thank you for being such a wonderful host and for everything that you've done.” DR. DAVE VILLANUEVA Hall of Famer in Medicine - National Award

“It was truly wonderful to be the recipient of the 2010 HOF award in the field of Mental Health. This has been another opportunity to put emphasis on mental health services and further opens the door in educating the community. As a veteran columnist of the Via Times Newsmagazine, I’m proud to be a part of the family and very appreciative to have been recognized with this accomplishment! Many thanks to Veronica and Joe, and the rest of VT & CPRTV staff!” Grace Tomas-Tolentino, Ph.D. Mental Health

“I would like to thank you for a wonderful and unforgettable night at the Hall of Fame Gala. All my guests were satisfied with the food and enjoyed the band. Even my young performers stayed late and took advantage of the live music and danced the night away.  Again, thank you for choosing me as one of the awardees. As I had said before, I really feel honored. I hope you also liked the performance of the Sulyap Pilipino Cultural Dance Company and that you will consider us for your future events.” JANE MIRAN Dance Art-Folk Dance Choreography

“Thank you, Via Times and CPR TV for an outstanding Filipino Hall of Fame awards ceremony.  I was most impressed - as were my guests - with the quality of people and programming that you and your team put forth for this event. You should be proud.  Most importantly, the Chicago area Filipino community proved it is alive and well. We are all so fortunate to be connected in the way that we are.  Here's to many years of continuing this most valuable tradition.  Honored and proud,” -DAVID PAULDINE, President, DeVry University Friend of the Filipino in Education

“We had a ball last Saturday and even beats out the Pacquiao/Clotter fight....like I said in fb, "It's out of this world"...no other award functions can compare with it in our community.  My mom really feels the recognition when Girlie Pascual introduced her and the others before they paraded to the stage....very emotional indeed. You guys put up an outstanding showcase for the hall of famers.  Btw, I want to say thank you and the others for helping my mom keep her balance when she was trying to climb the podium and accept her award.  She couldn't because of her weak knees affected by her knee replacements surgery a couple years ago.  But she is a trooper all the way.  Please do extend our thank you's to James Dela Cruz, Jovie and Rj Santos, and even Consul B.Cabrera, and I believe Jesse White for giving my mom a hand...we appreciate their quick response by grasping her immediately.” Thanks, again congratulations for a job well done!!!!  See you guys soon...regards to Tito Joe M! Lindy Tan (son of Ellen Tan), COMMUNITY SERVICE LEADERSHIP

“The live band is great, awesome singers.  Dinner is excellent, cocktails reception is awesome (too much food). Very, very organized, and the place OMG, I feel like I'm receiving Globe awards.   First time I have seen a Pilipino party like this. Very elegant and sophisticated, and those video screens... all over the place...it was like a dream. Veronica, you did an excellent job. Your people (organizers), they make sure that program is being followed. They are amazing. Your guests, my, oh my, oh my, secretary of state, alderman, CEO's, doctors, it is a good thing maganda si ako, otherwise I've nothing to show (joke only).  It is the best party and the most elegant party I have ever attended. You put the other hall of fame events to shame.  Can't compare.  KUDOS, awesome party.  Parang OSCAR award night with food.  All my guests were very pleased and the dancing, my feet were hurting and I had not even noticed I was wearing a gown.  I normally have a hard time dancing in long dress. I guess it was the ambience, the energy around.  I will never forget that special night. Thank you again.”  ROSE HIPONA  Dance Art-Choreography

“Thanks again to the community.  It was a real honor to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The evening was very special.  It was especially exciting for me to see all of the people who stood up in support of Comprehensive Immigration Reform.” -IRA AZULAY. Esq. Friend of the Filipino in Immigration Law

“Thank you for a lovely evening on Saturday, and thank you for the honor of inducting me into the Filipino-American Hall of Fame. You are wonderful people and great friends, and I look forward to seeing you again.  Please take care, and once again, thank you!” -RAJA KRISHNAMOORTHI Outstanding Asian American

“I would like to applaud your efforts in promoting our Filipino culture and heritage in the United States.  You have almost single handedly and tirelessly worked for the betterment of our community. The creation of the Chicago Filipino-American Hall of Fame is another example of your foresight and dynamic vision.  I am humbled and honored to be included in this year 2010 Hall of Fame awardees. This year’s list was quite impressive in terms of achievements and contributions to the Filipino-American community. The affair last March 13, 2010 was well- attended and a great success thanks to the hard work of the men and women of CPRTV.   It was a great honor to receive the award surrounded by friends, families and our local and state dignitaries. Thank you and keep up the good work! -BRADFORD A. TAN, M.D. Pathology Medicine

“Such a beautiful event!   I wish more people saw it.    As an awardee,  I have nothing but praises. I had been to a lot of awarding events, and I must say, this is the best. Thank you all for the honor, and the beautiful way it was done. I will treasure my crystal trophy! Thank you.-DELY VILLALON VIA WOMAN OF THE YEAR

Meeting  once again the indefatigable  Chief Editor and Publisher Ms. Veronica V. Leighton and the charming  and the dedicated staff members of VIA TIMES and CPRTV is  most heartwarming. I recall vividly that in 1994,  the  prestigious 1994 CFAHF POST HUMOUS AWARD  was given to our oldest sibling-sister, DR. NATTY G. BARRANDA, a lawyer, professor, poet , scholar and musician and both my brother, Angeles " Jun" G. Barranda, Jr, MBA, who resides in Lubbock, Texas and I  received it on her behalf. Thus this recent 2010 Induction CFAHF Ceremony  is truly another glorious , ecstatic and most  enduring  event to the Barranda siblings, to our extended family, friends and colleagues. A colorful banner congratulating me is on the wall and lobby of the government agency I work for. You can imagine the smiles of everyone who sees it and the non-stop congratulatory greetings to me by my colleagues and fellow Ohio state workers that ahs the original colorful invitation and picture of me as seen in our souvenir booklet.

Receiving a most beautiful crystal trophy on  March 13, 2010 in the presence of other  fellow awardees ,their families, friends and supporters of the Filipino American community  in the United States is almost like receiving the "Nobel Peace Prize", in the language of my brother, Robison G. Barranda, MBA.  In many ways I could only agree with him, for it makes me feel  I have more reasons to work for peace, progress ,justice, freedom and democracy so that we can reach out better, share  and pass on basic knowledge on.
The award bestowed on me makes  me  feel more humble and reminds me that I have been greatly blessed by the Giver and Sustainer of Life all through the years.  Certainly the award is shared with all  members of my family, my friends, my colleagues, co-workers, neighbors and former students as well. I can only continue to sing the hymn : "HOW GREAT THOU ART".  Truly let us all LIVE FULLY, LOVE ENDLESSLY, LEARN CONTINUOUSLY, AND SERVE GOD AND COUNTRY UNSELFISHLY  for the Holy Bible   in Mathew 6:33 assures us  with the verse: "Seek Ye first the Kingdom of God and HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS and  ALL  these things shall be added unto you".
"I am greatful to my second oldest sister, MRS. CRES BARRANDA-GACUSAN  and her dear faithful husband, ENGINEER HONESTO  R. GACUSAN  for the safe and happy driving to and from Chicago they did with me in their family van as I just  made it on time to  be there during  that glorious week-end  as it was indeed a  family reunion  for us."

“Almost a regular (past awardees with my wife Dr. Mila Puray & avid supporters) in many Chicago Filipino American Hall of Fame events, I’d say that this 2010 gala event tops it all.  Our friends who came and cheered for me really enjoyed everything they saw that evening--from ambiance to food & music, to the classiness of the whole preparation. Thank you and more good wishes, Via Times & CPRTV! -CESAR PURAY, M.D. Sexual Medicine

“I was actually coming off a bout of flu and not yet 100% well during the event. But in spite of it, I did have a blast, and my brother Rosito and wife Rosemarie and friend Glenn Wilke had a great time and were very impressed with how well things went. Everything was great – they told me; the appetizers, the food, the service, the musical numbers, the multi-monitors around the hall, to name a few. And I, of course, agree with them. You were particularly glowing, Veronica, and I think red really is your color. I wish to thank you and Joe for everything, thanks to Girlie and Dan and Thom and James, also to Jovie and RJ. All you beautiful people were just beautiful that night! The other awardees as well. Thanks again.  BONG PENERA Music
